x loves mommy

two months and one day

We had our two month pediatric appointment. so firstly i must apologize for such a length of time between posts. to catch us up, in the last month we have eaten, pooped, peed, started to smile (just a little), and started to slept more. we also have longer periods of awareness and interactivity. Lastly we have managed to catch our first cold. Saline drops and bulb syringes are our best friend. At the Peds appointment we had gained 2 pounds and grown about 3 inches bringing us to 12 lbs 12 oz, and just over 23 inches long. with a 80 percent length, 75 percent weight and a head diameter int eh 40 percent range. He also got 4 shots and took them like a champ (mom and dad got flu shots too, I only cried a little). We were informed that during the third month he should start doing more things, grabbing, giggling, maybe rolling over. I will be sure to blog about these things as they happen.

one week to remember

Christmas has come on past, and little did I know that a two month old could be showered with such gifts. Here is a video of Xavier's first Christmas.

video 1) from chirstmas eve

Video 2) from christmas day part 1

Video 3) from chirstmas day part 2

Video 4) Gift from my mom

all in all he received, an Alphabet drum and counting maracas, a tummy time gym set, burts bee's lotion, johnny jump up, an infant oral care set, an excisoucer, 10 stackable color blocks , a bib and a set of socks, 5 children's books, 4 wooden race cars, three Christmas ornaments, two infant outfits, and A viral URI care of mom, also an accoutrement of other nick nack type things.

Mom's big gifts for the year were a new laptop and a plush winter coat. I got an HDDVD player and an apple peeler corer slicer thing.

Aside from the fanfare of X's first Christmas we also were pleased to have Grand Mere visit us for a week and a 'storf family get together with all his cousins (minus two) aunts and uncles to give him lots of holiday love.

the great blizard of 2007

or at least that is what they are calling it. So the topic came up as to what exactly is a blizzard. After a little research I found that is most often an overused inaccurate description of the winter weather outside. In truth it is when three criteria are met 1) sustained wind of 35 mph or more, 2) visibility of 1/4 mile, or less, 3) must last more then three hours. I do not think we meet this criteria, but I still want a t-shirt "I survived the great blizzard of 2007"
On a slightly different note, the news is funny... Right now (with the heavy snow falling), we have Richard Whiteout, that is Richard White out side, looking at the conditions on the north side, and Angela Longnecker (i swear they said rubbernecker) watching traffic in the south.

movie review

I watched "nightwatch" and "daywatch" yesterday. WOW, were they good. They are a set of Russian films that i highly recommend to anyone who like fantasy, scifi, vampire type movies. That being said, this movie had vampires, but was not an actual vampire movie. In short the two movies fallow a guy named Anton. He is a "light other." in his world, there are light others and dark others who are watching out for man kind to make sure the balance of good and evil stays balanced. Ultimately the dark others want to get it off balance so they can rule the world. SO to do this they set Anton up. In the past he made a bad decision that comes to fruition in the first film. Then in the second film, he has to find out how to right his wrong. I give the two films four thumbs up. Great story line, great characters, great special effects, kind off loose plot, but there is always something.

7 weeks and counting

Xavier is seven weeks old today, and to celebrate he decided to sleep through the night last night. well almost. He ate at about 11, and was asleep by midnight. this is later then usual, but I was watching a movie and procrastinated in getting upstairs to get a bottle. Anyway, we went to sleep, Karen got home from work at about 3:30 and went to bed without feeding him, because he was still vary asleep. Then at about 6 Karen got up in response to the first sign of fussiness all night. In the span of about 30 minutes she feeds him while he is still half asleep. After which he spat everything back out fountain style and fell deeply back to sleep. This morning at about 8:00 he finally woke up and wanted to eat and interact with the world. We are going to count this as his first full night sleep.

pick a tree

yesterday we went to the not so local Christmas tree farm. We picked up a tree and a wreath, had some hot chocolate, and a cold adventure. here are some pics.

so it begins

Karen went back to work today, the 3 to midnight shift. By saying she has gone back to work, it kind of implies that she had time off. But I digress. As of today, Karen is working on between 4 and 6 shifts a week, and i have become a full time at home dad. tonight, X plans to have a bath, eat some food and then have some sleep. hopefully this plan works.

smoke makes me smile

I have a confession to make, well kind of. I have a small addiction that some times gets me down. I am trying to kick the habit but it is, as with all addictions, an uphill battle. However, when I am down and out, nothing makes me smile like a house full of smoke, that is cooking something fun and new. Today was such a day. I was a little down earlier today, but a little browsing of the internet and some recipe web sites, set my mind straight. Tonight we had home made speatzle, with a blue cheese cream sauce toped by a creamy Parmesan orange roughy. Even though the color was very mute and on the bland side, the flavor was far from it. I knew speatzle could make me happy, but who knew it was so easy to make?

A winter wonder what?

Some of you are familiar with the last year’s winter debacle and the resultant purchase of snow blower. Well the past week it has been snowing and I have been eagerly awaiting the use of said blower once again. If not for the joy of throwing snow 15 feet with a mechanized spinning blade, then for the thought that some day I may get my moneys worth out of it. Well a few days ago we got about 4 inches. I woke up that morning and the walk way and driveway were already thawed considerably (or so it appeared). But there was still a light layer of snow on the concrete. I was ok with this and thought maybe next time, however I was a little confused because most of the other driveways had not began to thaw. Non the less I went on with life. Well it snowed again last night. When I woke up this morning by walkway, my driveway, and a patch in front of my mailbox were devoid of snow. Now I know that aint right. On closer examination I discovered that someone has been shoveling my snow!! Now for the confusing part, I do not know who, or why this has been done. It is nice, but I want to use my snow blower, and by the way Why could they not have done this last year, and made me not need to buy a snow blower in the first place. SO, to the mystery snowplow person I say thank you for your help, but back off, your taking away my fun.
