Melting pot photo

here is the photo from date night

Vacation time is over.

Last night (or is it this morning) at midnight, Karen's computer dinged and said "vacation over." We were very sad to see the end of a very adventurous week of first for the boy, and a much need break for his mom. And at this point I MUST thank Grand mere for all of her hospitality, the great food, and great times and for giving us a chance to have a date night.

Flash back and review
One week ago (ish) was mothers day, and Karen got to celebrate her first mothers day on an overnight retreat with the emergency medicine residents at a cabin an hour away. At home we celebrated by making paper hats.

on Monday we spent the day packing for our first family vacation to Florida to see grand mare. Usually our packing consists of two carry ons. This time, with the addition of a baby, we got to fly with two checked bags, and three carry ons (that is counting the car seat)

Tuesday: We went on a plane ride, X whimpered during the take off and during the landing, but managed to sleep during the entire flight. Afterwards, the old couple in front of us stood up and said "oh dear, its a baby... we did not realize that he was behind us. He was sooo good." It was sweet.

That night we went for our first swim, and the boy (taking after mom and dad) loved the water.

Wednesday: We went to the Zoo. This was not our first trip to the zoo, but we did get a close up encounter with a giraffe and his very long, purple tong.

We went to the park and got on a swing. Again, the boy had a good time as you can tell.

Thursday: WE ATE BEATS...

and yes it makes your BM red.

This was also the big date night. Karen and I went out to the melting pot and had a fun-due time. It was very nice to hang out and chat, and be babyless for a few hours.

(picture to be added, ones scanned...and it is a really good one)

Friday: Was a little more of the same... Swimming, hanging out, eating some good seafood. We also picked up a rental car... usually we go for the cheapest economy size car you can get, and that is what we registered for when we made a reservation. When we got to the counter however, they were out, so we got the keys to a new Chrysler M300. It was a very nice, yet uncomfortably big, car.

Saturday: we got together with some friends and hung out at the happiest place on earth. X's godmothers, sister-in-law is very good friends with Ariel (wink wink) and she was able to help us get into Disney World and get a good discount on dinner that night at Restaurant Marrakesh. X got a very cute pin that says first trip to Disney world.

At the end of a very long day, we went back to the hotel to rest a bit before waking up too early to get on a plane back home.

Sunday:
Second plane ride went better then the first, X was fussy at first. Then we got some food in him and he slept from about 20 minutes into the flight until we were most of the way home in the cat after landing.

Today we are in a post vacation funk, catching up on some cleaning, going to get the dog, and starting to clean for my sister to come visit on Friday.

Taste the Rainbow

This past week or two we have been expanding our dietary menu selection.

Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Rutabaga
Pears, Yellow Squash, Broccoli

frozen foods
To date, He LOVES Yellow squash and Sweet potatoes, Pears are up there too. He has a kind of indifference to Carrots, and he makes a very sour, "I can not believe you gave me that" face when presented with Avocado.

Some other fun things we managed to do this week include...
Seeing the new comic book exhibit at the Indianapolis children's museum
Went to see the snakes at the Zoo with mom
Got to see Iron Man in the theater
We also went shopping in preparation for our upcoming trip to Florida. X got a nice ball cap, a pair of sun glasses and a cute little swim suit. Hopefully he will enjoy his first swimming adventure. If he likes it enough (and probably if he does not), the plan is to join the YMCA upon our return and start working on those swimming proficiency skills.

Here is a parting shot from Wednesday, as we were heading out the door to pick up the latest lot of comics. (BTVS S8. IS really good.)

The oaks, the derby, and a little rain on the parade

Yesterday was the oaks and the Barnstable Brown Unstable Clown Party. We were in the infield for about one hour before the rain started to roll in, and boy did it rain, at least up until the party started. The one Limo of note that we got to see was the "bunny" limo of Hough Heffner and his girls next door. I also go to see very cool, oddly tall, bright blue Maserati, and we got to see mini me (picture included).

Today was the derby, with good food, good friends, and a big win for big brown, however there was not all sunny skies with the tragic loss of the place horse, Eight Belles. You will be missed.
