three generations

I went home this past weekend, and my dad finally got the chance to meet X, I think he was impressed, my dad that is. I do not know that I have ever seen him this happy or interactive. Here is a picture that a good friend took while I was in town. My mom sent it to me yesterday.

Three months down, or is it 13 weeks?

X is 13 weeks old today but will not technically be three months until tomorrow, and this brings me to an important question. When do you stop reporting your child's age with meticulous detail. Being a first time parent I think it is funny the responses I have hear to the question, how old is your child. Mine is 63 weeks! mine is 18 months! Mine will be 3 years old in 5 months! What does That mean. When you get down to it, I do have a argument to make for a little detail. Last Friday, X was 12 old, this should translate to 3 months, assuming that the month is a four weeks (wich most people tend to do). However, if you do make that assumption, your child will reach 13 months on the date that they become a year, and that is just wrong. SO, I think that i am going to loose the weekly descriptor hear shortly and just switch to months. But i declare here and now that my boy will not be a month older until the 26th (except in February) of the month. After tomorrow X is 3 months old, and after that he will be 4 on the 26th. No more weeks. ANd beyond that his progression will be... he is a year, a little over a year, a year and a half, almost two, and then it is just 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. etc.
On a slightly different note I would like to let it be know that X is currently right on track, developmentally at least. Recently he discovered his hands, and he is quickly learning that he controls them and is able to reach out and grab things, He also rolled over on his own for the first time the other day, tummy to back. He has also learned that he has a voice that he is able to use, even if he does not "need" anything. Lately he is content sitting in his chair interacting with a frog that my mother bought him. I will put a pic of him and the frog up later. One other funny thing he does is this. Every time we turn the lights on in his room he sneezes. I think that the light makes him squint, which in turn puts pressure on his sinuses, and results in a tickle, that causes a sneeze. But that is just a guess, not scientific fact.

Old Boy, New Trick

SO we are burgeoning on 12 weeks old and we have picked up three "fun" new tricks tonight. First I can not complain to much about these "fun" new tricks for one reason, and that is 8 to 11, Hours that is, how long has xavier been sleeping every night for the last 16 days... 8 to 11. It is great, so these new "fun" tricks are ok, at least for now.

Trick number #1, (in the voice of the little man) Just because I am in bed at 8:00pm, it does not mean I need to fall to sleep, and no mater how tiered you say I am, or actually am, I am not going to sleep if i do not want to. My eyes may drift slowly shut and i may snuggle my head in, ever expanding that growing bald spot on the back, but if i so chose, I am aloud to open my eyes and not sleep. Even if all I want to do is rub my eyes and drift in and out of consciousness, I will not fall to sleep if i do not want to.
"fun"

Trick #2, (in the voice of the little man) If i scream, they will come.
"fun, Fun"

On the cusp of not falling to sleep, X has decided he wants to scream. I walk in, and flip on the switch and get dead silence, with a big grin. BIG GRIN. he is cute, but not that cute. I let him play this game a couple times, then i say neey. i decide tonight is the night he gets to learn trick number three.

trick #3, (in the voice of little man) I can cry myself to sleep
"fun, Fun, FUN"

so i turn out the lights and close the door, he cries. I open the door, he smiles.
I close the door, he cries. I open the door, he smiles.
I close the door, he cries. I open the door, he smiles.
I close the door, he cries. I open the door, he smiles.
Then comes the twist.
I close the door, he cries. I wait 5 minutes, I open the door, he smiles.
I close the door, he cries. I wait 10 minutes, I open the door, he smiles
I close the door, he cries. I wait 15 minutes, I open the door, he smiles
I close the door, he cries. I wait 17 minutes and he is asleep.

again

resolutions

We are sooo happy to announce that Xavier has decided to stick with the new years resolution. SO far, since the first of the year, Xavier has decided it is time for him to sleep through the night. This is good for me. Generally he is going to bed at about 9:00 and waking up around 4:00 for a quick snack, then crashing again until about 8:30. Last night he sleep straight through from midnight to 8:00. This, on the other hand, is not so good for Karen, considering she is working evening and night for the most part. This means that she gets home some time between midnight and 4am. This means that the majority of the sleep he gets, is while Karen is at work.

As far as Karen and my resolution, we have vowed to keep xavier happy. This should not be to hard right??

two months and one day

We had our two month pediatric appointment. so firstly i must apologize for such a length of time between posts. to catch us up, in the last month we have eaten, pooped, peed, started to smile (just a little), and started to slept more. we also have longer periods of awareness and interactivity. Lastly we have managed to catch our first cold. Saline drops and bulb syringes are our best friend. At the Peds appointment we had gained 2 pounds and grown about 3 inches bringing us to 12 lbs 12 oz, and just over 23 inches long. with a 80 percent length, 75 percent weight and a head diameter int eh 40 percent range. He also got 4 shots and took them like a champ (mom and dad got flu shots too, I only cried a little). We were informed that during the third month he should start doing more things, grabbing, giggling, maybe rolling over. I will be sure to blog about these things as they happen.
