practice makes perfect

Here is another short video

the pictures are of our morning ritual of watching the today show... hoenstly, he usually does not look at the tv once the whole morning, generally he plays with blocks and stuff, but today they were playing "rock band" and he loves to dance to the music.

All I got was a tooth.

Yesterday was a big day. Firstly, it was my blushing brides birthday. Also, it was her first day completely off (not post overnight) in roughly 28 days. So we celebrated with three full sit down meals, a pediatrician appointment, and a full day of hanging out with each other.
X had a big day too. As I said, we went to a pediatrician appointment. The boy is currently 21 lbs (60 percent tile), is 75 percent in height, and still has a small head. We also are right on par with our development. the only thing that he "should" be doing, that he has not figured out yet, is waving. Before yesterday he was down by two tasks, but spontaneously, as if to say happy birthday mom, he started standing on his own... and for my birthday... see the title.

so this is exciting. both from karen and my point of view, and obviously from the boys.
this is how it goes down.
1) pull up on something.
2) assume a sumo stance (legs spread wide)
3) let go of pull up item
4) look around and smile with an occasional squeal.
5) fall on bottom
6) repeat.

here are some pics,

and a few videos.

and then just a good picture.

cognitive development +1 / social interaction -1

So, xavier has started to develop an idea of object permanence. When we play peek-a-boo, he looks around the thing blocking his view because he knows you are still there. it is very cute. He also has begun to understand who Karen and I are. When we walk into his room (in the morning, or pot nap) he smiles really big, bounces up and down and proclaims da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da, much to Karen's chagrin. This is a cool feeling, to know that he knows who we are, but it comes with a dark side... separation anxiety!!
up until about a week ago, we could play pass the baby. He would be happy in anyone’s arms, and keep himself entertained by looking at his surroundings. About two days ago he decided that if it is not mom or dad holding him he needs to do two things. 1) Look around frantically until one of them comes into his line of site 2) pout, and if that does not work.... scream.
The unfortunate part of this new development is that his pouty face is sooo darn cute. I want to hand him to strangers and walk away, just to see him pout. The ugly part of it is his scream, which (unfortunately) gets better and better on a daily basis
Anyway that is what is new and exciting in the life of X.
Now for some pictures.

New Camera

We got a new camera yesterday. The one we had was about 8 years old, and took about 1 min to write each picture, so we broke down and got a nice new one. here are some sample pics, and a video.

WTF? A-B goes to the Belgians

"The board of directors of Anheuser-Busch Cos. on Sunday accepted a $52 billion takeover offer from Belgium's InBev, putting a quick end to a monthlong standoff between the companies. The agreement paves the way for a brewing colossus controlling about a quarter of the world's beer market."

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

I am not a big beer drinker, and I have little "home town" alliance, BUT how could they do it. the Clydesdales, the history, the st Louis love. It is all very sad.

and yes, as we all know, I did not grow up "in" St Louis. But close enough.

Trip to the park

The other day was such a nice day that we decided to take a little trip to the park, and to go on a short hike down to the river.

the mothman comith

so we had a visitor last night that decided to have his last hurrah on our doorstep. I thought he was so beautiful that I had to share some pics.

gifts for all

Just in case you were curious (mostly for my mom and dad, the second part that is). Here are the gifts we got each other for anniversary number 5.

Karen got me a cutting board, and NICE chefs knife. She also got me a cool wood picture frame (wood is the "traditional" five year gift).

I made Karen a ring stand and a band out of olive wood purchased in Bethlehem. I had to go back to St. Louis for a day to get help from my dad (he has power tools and i do not, even though in the end it was drilled by hand). Then once the "blank" was made I sanded it down to size by hand. Here are some pics pre-sanded and post.

SO i big thanks goes to my dad for helping me make this great gift.

Happy Five Years To Us

today is our five year anniversary. it seams like we were married only yesterday.
and how did we get so lucky to have such a beautiful baby boy bless our lives.
