The story so far...

so the story so far...
about three weeks ago Karen was called right before her ob appointment(always on Thursdays) to say she needed to reschedule because her regular doctor was in the hospital. At the time appointment we were placed in the far back room that is usually not used that had a strange vile of brown sludge on the counter. This was our 37 week appointment and the new OB asked a few questions and sent us on our way, we were all assuming that we would see our normal OB the next week. we left the office a little uneasy about the experience but ready for the next week. BUT when we got home we had a new phone message (left just after we left the OB) saying that we would need to reschedule again b/c our regular ob would not be in the office for another week. YIKES. This made Karen a little upset, but we still had two weeks until Elyse was due, so we thought we would just relax and hope for the best.

Well, the next week we got to see that same ob as the previous week, and in a real room. Had a real conversation with her, and she actually checked to see how we were progressing. The good news was that she had dilated some and seemed to be progressing. the bad news was she had high blood pressure and protein in her urine. both of which were "borderline" to indicate preeclampsia and to get a better assessment we would need to track her blood pressure over the next couple days. After the pressures did not go down the OB decided to do a 24 hour urine test. Again, borderline. We were also informed that our “regular OB would be back on Wednesday if we made it that long.” needless to say, that did not help the blood pressure situation.

So, a few sleepless nights, and blood pressure fluctuation later we finally got to see our regular OB today. She said that we were progressing but the blood pressure was concerning so we had a decision to make. SHe basically said that she was willing to induce whenever we felt we were ready, and if we wanted to we could check in tonight. Luck for us, Karen's mom had just flown in from Florida to watch Xavier. So, after a short discussion we decided to go out for a nice dinner and go into the hospital.

Now we are in the l&d wing, the cervidil is in, and we are watching some tv. Upon check in, the nurse informed us that we had progressed considerably from earler today and she does not expect us to make it through the night. I guess we will have to wait and see...

more later.
